Brighten up a small space with the tiny deciduous shrub, Golden Nugget™ dwarf barberry (Berberis thunbergii ‘Monlers’) or include it as a golden accent in an arrangement of containers.

Despite the light colour of its foliage, this tough little plant is burn resistant, hardy to zone 3, and once established survives in poor soil with very little water. In spring the tiny lime-green buds are the first sign of life, a counterpoint to the delicate twiggy stems. There is no need to prune Golden Nugget™, which grows to only 30 to 38 cm (12 to15 in.) in height and 45 cm (18 in.) around, unless, of course, you prefer a more formal look.
