GardenWise reader, Gerry Treger shares photographs of his garden. Gerry takes care of all "in ground" plants, while his friend, Joyce creates and cares for the hanging baskets and planter boxes.

"As you can see from the photo looking houseward from the road and at the creek, the yard is pretty wild. There are thousands of flower plants. I stopped full bore weeding a long time ago and try to maintain the plants that survive slug infestations and can coexist with buttercups & grasses. Tall perennials work well, dianthus family, etc. Raspberries, foxgloves, forget-me-nots, centaurea, daisies, etc., are allowed to sprout up and grow pretty well wherever they please.

Slugs, cool temperatures & blight prevail here at the north end of the island. I've been narrowing my rose plant selections to those that are disease resistant. Dublin Bay, New Dawn & Elena, are excellent choices for our climate. I quit fighting the slugs and eliminated all slug favourite perennials except my Lupins" -- Gerry Trager.

I like this kind of gardening.... dense, and let the best plant win! I notice that your clematis look so healthy..... mine do, also, barring one. I suspect the dreaded clematis wilt. Any solutions? It is a variety I don't particularly care for, so I may have to eliminate it, unless it's health improves. Any tips? Also, youmay be at the north end, but if these pictures are from this year, you are WAAAAAY ahead of me, here in Sechelt.
