Those who come to your home should be treated to a garden walk that opens up with surprises. This heritage home in New Westminster deserved such a design treatment.

“The straight and narrow old concrete walk was transformed into a meandering flagstone pathway,” says Reinier van de Poll of Van de Poll Garden Design.

Now, visitors approaching the house enjoy the sight of bold curving beds opening up new views of the lawn and plantings. A magnificent cut-leaf red maple has become a focal point, complete with subtle night lighting. Lastly, using tumbled-granite stone pillars and walls, topped by an overhead rustic cedar arbour, van de Poll created a courtyard at the front door to add greater emphasis to one’s arrival. Thanks to this new design treatment, this home now offers a warm welcome to all.
