Every spring I attempt to cut back the number of varieties of tomatoes I grow. Every year I fail, because I keep discovering new varieties I simply have to try! Despite the fact that 2008 started out as a rotten year for growing tomatoes, I am very pleased with this year’s harvest.
Ardwyna Paste
If you are looking for a large meaty tomato for sauces and paste look no further. These can get huge in size, (see photo) but will ripen mid-season from sturdy ladened vines. Ardwyna Paste also makes a tasty slicer for sandwiches.
Japanese Black Trifele
Who could resist a tomato with such a name? I am glad I didn’t, because the flavour is knockout! Everyone who popped a slice of this tangy tomato in his or her mouth exclaimed ‘wow!’
