When is the best time to pick kiwis?

I've been told to pick my kiwis after the first hard frost. What does hard frost mean? Last year, in November when we had the cold snap and snow, some fruit had been left on the vine accidentally for a couple of days after the snow and cold hit. They froze and were inedible. I don't want that to happen again!

It is important that the kiwis not freeze, a light frost is the most cold they will take without spoiling.

Ideally mid September is the best for harvest; cut one open, be sure they are mature and then harvest all. They may be stored cold in the fridge or root cellar for months, or left at room temperature to be immediately enjoyed. It is also recommended that they be picked early in the morning, this will help increase storage time.

Enjoy!
